Company Profile

Tungsten Alloy Sintering

Here at MGS Precision Ltd we are experts at Tungsten alloy billet production. We also machine the billets to micron tolerances and incredible tight surface finish tolerances. The sintering process is known as ‘Liquid Phase Sintering’ [LPS].

This is a sintering technique that utilises a liquid phase alloy to allow elemental bonding to the solid phase Tungsten. The liquid phase involves a specific recipe of Nickel, Iron and Copper in a variety of proportions according to the application to take advantage of the eutectic reaction to create a liquid phase, mixed with a high percentage of Tungsten, obtaining a higher density part. The sinter process uses temperatures up to 1500 degrees centigrade, in one of 4 ovens at MGS (see photo), and can take up to 24 hours. The sintering is done in a vacuum.

Tungsten alloy billets are manufactured to NNS (near net shape) to create less swarf waste when machining. MGS have been Tungsten alloy specialist for over 20 years, supplying defence, motorsports, aerospace, and research projects around the world. Please give Justin Brooking or Ellen Hammond a call on 0044 1785 334 278, or email [email protected] for further information. Many thanks.
