Walford Crankshafts (a trading name of Walford High Speed) was born from our automotive toolroom facility in 2019. Used to machining large quantities of one off parts for our internal tool designs, we developed a crankshaft manutacturing process, however as it became clear there was space in the market for a new supplier, we decided to move to bespoke production and invested in new mill-turn machinery and crankshaft grinders. Most of our toolroom contacts support all the processes we need, and our long involvement with historic engines stretching back to the 1980s brought the necessary technical knowledge.

Several of our staff have motorsport connection, with Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru Imprezas, Lotus Sunbeams, and a variety of special saloon and historic Mini Coopers being campaigned from time to time.

The beginning of the crankshaft adventure came with the ongoing support of several Ford/Mini conversions raced around the world. When the last crank we supplied required 32 weeks before despatch we decided to make the next one ourselves. It was used in the rebuild of this Richardson BDH Maguire Mini. The next was the long stroke crank for this 1.5 litre Mini Cooper S hill climb car, followed by this Honda K20 used a development engine built by HPE automotive.
